Sokar (Sekar, Sokaris)

Status:

Deceased

SG-1 Persona:

Sokar was once the leader of the System Lords, before he was overthrown by an alliance of Goa'uld including Ra and Apophis. SG-1 first encountered him after inadvertently rescuing Apophis from him. His subsequent attack nearly destroyed the iris before the SGC returned Apophis' body to him. After this first encounter with him, Daniel Jackson presumed Sokar to be Unas. He may also have been the original inspiration for stories of Satan on Earth.

Subsequent events have shown that Sokar, though not Unas, is not human either. Sokar gathered sufficient forces at Delmak to attempt to take complete control of the Goa'uld System Lords, which would make him an unstoppable force in the galaxy. SG-1 itself still has not encountered him directly, though they travelled to Netu, Delmak's moon, to rescue Jacob Carter/Selmak and gain information on Sokar's plans. Sokar perished when the explosion of Netu destroyed his pyramid ship.

Encyclopedia Mythica:
The Egyptian god of the Memphis necropolis, and a funerary god. In the Old Kingdom, Seker came to be regarded as a manifestation of the dead Osiris at Abydos in Upper Egypt. Also during this time, he came to be syncretized with Ptah as Ptah-Seker, in which form he took the lioness goddess Sakhmet as his consort. In the Middle Kingdom, the three were sometimes merged in the form Ptah-Seker-Osiris. As god of the necropolis, Seker is also the patron of the craftsmen who are put to work there. He was associated with the manufacture of various objects used in embalming and in funerary rituals.
