Amaunet (Amonet)

Status:

Deceased

SG-1 Persona:

Amaunet was Queen to Apophis, who took Daniel Jackson's Abydonian wife Sha're as host. She was seen a year later on Abydos, where she gave birth to Apophis' human son. After the birth, Amaunet told Apophis that Heru'ur had taken the boy, while in reality the child was left on Abydos with his grandfather, Kasuf.

SG-1 next encountered Amaunet on P8X-873 after she kidnapped a group of Abydonians as slaves. During the subsequent battle, Teal'c was forced to fire upon and kill Amaunet to save Daniel's life, but not before Daniel learned that Amaunet had had her closest aide hide the infant boy, a "harseisis" who possesses all the knowledge of the Goa'uld, in Kheb (the mythical location where Osiris hid from Set).

Encyclopedia Mythica:
An Egyptian mother goddess, called the "Hidden One". She is the personification of the life-bringing northern wind. She belongs to the Ogdoad of Hermopolis. Within this group of gods her consort is the god Amun. She is referred to as 'the mother who is father' and in this capacity she needs no husband. Amaunet was regarded as a tutelary deity of the Egyptian pharaohs and had a prominent part in their accession ceremonies. She is portrayed as a snake or a snake-head on which the crown of Lower Egypt rests.
